Half life: Catharina unleashed

Well, it’s not like anyone had a leash on her. We all know that the little girls have grown, grown into free and empowered womyn. But this time, the high profile goes to Catharina, the one with the whispering voice of rayon, the one that likes to shake her bod on her live sets like some sort of tomb-b-boy (yeah, I just coined that term). Henrietta looks from the side, taciturn, wearing cute red lipstick, both things rather unlikely coming from her.

With her baggy pants and her rubber sneakers, Catharina breaks loose, chasing a night which seems almost as bare as this track. Percussive, mainly, or acousmatic, much in the way of the sinister and the mysterious: Because this how a Viking woman’s world-weariness, unisineass and amour fou operate: in the ice cold nights, they build a fire on their bodies with the beat. They put their makeup on the bed to reach the underground clubs adequately high. Ambivalent and passionate, as she herself puts it:

I need you bad, baby. I need someone bad, maybe.

With this new song, Smerz continues to establish themselves as the icy, postmodern fado of Nordic  femmes. If all of Okay is as okay as what they’ve been showing us, then I shall wait patiently until it leaks through The Pirate Bay. Maybe that way I’ll find my new favourite album.
