WIDE Recommends 0006

Aliens with STIs, rap from Perú portraying the everyday lives of little ganger kids from the underclasses, castles made out of crystal that aren’t Crystal Castles. A rapper cries his heart out (like a bitch) in a painfully sweet R&B tune, and another, world renown lover of dildos, makes her comback to Youtube just in time to get flak by the politically correct vigilantes of the internets. From WIDE we’re proud to present to you this week’s music suggestions.

1. Rejjie Snow – Egyptian Luvr

Flexing quite a bit of visual craft muscle to go with rhymes tighter than your momma’s six-pack, Irish rapper Rejjie Snow has just dropped the video for “Egyptian Luvr”, the main track in his debut album Dear Annie. Spreading the love disease, with his heart shining like a chlamydia ridden E.T., this rack will make you ask for the earth to swallow you whole as you think back on your ex, hovering on a bassline of which we can only fathom its deliciousness, as it lays at the bottom of the mix. At the ending, the cops show and take him away, just the way time did your dreams ;3

2. A.CHAL – Cuánto (feat. A$AP Nast)

Peruvian born and Los Angeles based rapper Alejandro Salazar – a.k.a. A.CHALrecently shared the videoclip for “Cuánto”, featuring A$AP Nast which belongs to his latest record A GAZ. This violent clip was directed by Dexter Navy and is a mini-documentary of its own, taking a snapshot of the life and ramblings of the Pirañatias, a little gang of kids and adolescents from his homeland trying to survive by any means, as is often the case on the lower strata of the class spectrum.

3. Daniel Avery – Projector

Electronic music producer Daniel Avery joins efforts once more with Flat-e Studio in London in creating the visuals for his latest videoclip “Projector” with hypnotic results: iridescent crystal structures flicker in a rhythmic space, a trip through a geometrically doped hallucination.

4. berhana – Whole Wide World

The singer/composer berhana has the nicest sense of humor. On this track we find him sighing with teary eyes as he looks through the window of a plane, when suddenly a diegetic friend of his appears and asks him “Don’t you know you are looking like a bitch right now, nigga?”, to which he retorts with a heartfelt, retro-nostalgic love song for that one and only girl for whom he might just go across the whole wide world for.

The perhaps unknown Atlanta born and based artist – perhaps, since he’s got a track on Spotify with 24 million play counts – had a little apparition on that show by Donald Glove… the one named after that city… with the Paper Boi and the Earn…

5. CupcakKe – Crayons

After a brief Youtube ban CupcakKe left her prized dildo collection at home for the shooting of her latest video, hinting at the LGBTI flag with the friendly coloured paraffin pencils we’ve known since our preschooler days. Even if she toned down a little, scandal ensued all the same: since this is the age of “political correctness”, some people took issue at her use of the word “transgender” as a noun and not as an adjective. It’s sure is funny to see how candidly talking about a trending topic can get anyone into trouble, but the frequency of words being mistaken for pointed objects on the internet of 2018 is getting a bit ridiculous.

6. Little Boots – Shadows

If you always though her name was an allusion to Emperor Caligula, you may now catch up by listening to Little Boots comeback track “Shadows”. Emerging from a perfect blend of our sexy and elegant Victoria Hesketh and the mad production skillz of brazilian DJ Joyce Muniz. Thumping with a 4/4 kick and an 808 bass sound fit for catwalks, dancing to this tune immediately transforms you into an Euro Trash Girl downing MDMA with cosmopolitans under the strobe lights of Barcelona’s discos.
