DJ Pillows: the new incorporation of Matraca Netlabel in the catalog

Our beloved friends from the peruvian netlabel Matraca presented a new artist in its catalog: DJ Pillows and his EP Low last April 8th that you can’t miss.

DJ Pillows is a multi-genre saxophonist and producer who has lived between Glasgow, Scotland and Lima, Peru. The artist, in his Dj Pillows avatar, explores beyond his jazz formation, producing in new registers and genres, his musical background is quite clear to be felt on this release.

The EP Low presents footwork and jungle rhythms that, with meticulously programmed drums, electronic textures and recorded brass, summon a unique and avant-garde sound. Electronic, yet organic.

The sound of “Mount Florida”, is influenced by oldskool jungle and introduces a complex landscape of woodwinds that take a nod to J. Dilla. “Tu”, on the other hand, mixes juke with minimalist elements and a recorded voice. “Rising” is oriented to the classic sound of Chicago Footwork with a psychedelic chewed cassette feel.

Matraca is an independent collective specialized in producing and spreading alternative electronic music through original audiovisual experiences since 2013 in Lima, Peru.
