Glastonbury 2019: Latin American artists in the festival

The Glastonbury 2019 has always been listed as one of the most important festivals in the world, taking place in the fields of Pilton, Somerset in England since 1970 almost every year since. This festival is well known for having a huge line up of diverse music acts as well as other artistic activities and the 2019 edition has not been left behind. Headliners such as The Cure, Stormzy, MS. Lauryn Hill and Janet Jackson, are sharing a piece of the poster with Rosalia [Spain] and Liniker E Os Caramelows [Brazil] which give us hope for a greater Latin presence on the event.

Glastonbury 2019 is taking place from the 26th to the 30th of June, and in WIDE we will leave you a whole-hearted recommendation of some Latin American acts. Whether you have your ticket or not to this powerful festival, you can support new emerging artists from the region by just listening or sharing their music.

A total of 11 Colombian artists will be performing to the British and international audience and we personally feel it for 5 of them: Mabiland, Ghetto Kumbé, La Payara, Acid Pantera and Dj Dabba, a South American magic combo that takes over the Gully Blues stage on Friday, June 28.

In addition, our beloved Eliane Correa will also be on Saturday as part of the GlastoLatino. She is a cuban pianist and composer established between London and Havana will take her project Eliana Correa & La Evolución to the festival’s Latin stage. Prepare your hips for a session of contemporary Cuban Timba that keeps your blood warm in the typical English weather.

From Bogotá, after turning on the parties in nightclubs in the city, La Payara arrives to Glastonbury 2019. A project that melts the sounds of Colombian folklore, like gaitas and drums (tambores), with electronic beats perfumed with psychedelia and percussion.

Mabiland
Stage: Gully Blues, Friday
16:45 – 18:05

Now, from Quibdó, although based in Medellín, the singer and composer Mabiland mixes rap and neo-soul in a splendid way. Her mixtures and lyrics praise on female empowerment and personal journeys.

Ácido Pantera

From the union of the producers Juan Correal and Diego Sierra was born Ácido Pantera, from Colombia to the world. These two fuse acid and tropical beats, with traditional percussion instruments from their country; drums, synthesizers and voices in Spanish.

Ghetto Kumbé

An instant trip to the Colombian jungle is to listen to Ghetto Kumbé with his afro colombian beats. Bogotá based, they are experts in taking out your inner jungle and dance it off with its percussion caribbean rhythms and traditional Afro-Colombian sounds.

Dj Dabba
Stage: Gully Blues, Friday
00:30 – 01:30

Dj Dabba will be one of the DJs that will be playing at the Gully Blues stage, she has worked in creating cultural spaces around electronic music in Colombia. Her mixes lay between the tropical and the afro beats to make you dance all night.

Eli & La Evolución
Stage: GlastoLatino, Saturday
00:30 – 01:30

Eli & La Evolución is a Cuban salsa group composed of diverse Latin musicians living in the United Kingdom. Led by Eliana Correa, the band will cover hits of pop, soul and R&B with an interesting Cuban twist.

Finally, we have a bonus artist: Cal Jader, leader of the netlabel Movimientos UK. Although Cal is not Latino, his activism in the music and club industry in London has helped shape the local scene of tropical and Afro-Caribbean rhythms. He has performed and promoted artists such as Toy Selectah, Quantic, ZZK, Uproot Andy & Geko Jones, among others. Jader will be playing on Thursday from 21:00 to 22:00 on the Samula stage.
