Matraca (Dr. 100) – Medicina Matraca
Podcast name: Medicina MatracaΒ
Host: Dr. 100
Genres: Juke / Footwork / Bass Music
Friday 4pm UK
Dr. 100 β founding member of the Peruvian netlabel Matraca β takes us on a tour around the streets of Lima and the emerging 2.0 musical niches whilst reminiscing on the classics of Hip-hop, Dub, Electronica as well as the Chicago and Detroit House/Techno scenes that fostered the whole mess. Then he’ll treat us to a careful hand-picked selection of today’s tastier vintages of Juke, Footwork and Trap on Medicina Matraca.Β A gourmand variety of cough-syrup that cleanses the body and soul, the ideal pick to blend with lemon soda, gummy treats and over-the-counter varieties of promethazine and codeine, the exquisite taste of thick and consistent basslines powdered with the loveliest sample-based and drum machine beats.
This is the way that our host’s label and his compadres β the poet/beatmakers LukrΓΈ, Mono con $uerte and Mijail Mitrovic β have agreed to bring us closer to their city’s alternative electronic music scene, in practical one hour rations that will leave you wanting more of their luscious flavor and go for a breath of fresh air (preferably at the club or at the top of a lowrider with epileptic hydraulics).
The show consists of two sections: one showcasing the label’s most recent productions, remixes and collabs, the other explores the melting pot of Lima’s electronic music scene.
First steps of Dr. 100 from Matraca in music
Our host, Dr. 100 β a.k.a. Rodrigo De Las Casas β is one of the main dudes in this musical milieu, taking his first steps at mixing and producing around 2013, when he dropped a handful resounding oldschool Hip-hop tracks into the ever-flowing currents of the internet. Even these first showed very danceable vibes which could do perfectly without an M.C., as to enjoy the combination of electric piano chords and boom-bap-clap rhythms, as well as an extensive collection of Rap, Soul, Disco and R&B samples.
This affinity for the dancefloor is more noticeable on his Molto & Bene project, on which he collaborated with his would-be label cofounder Mijail Mitrovic. Fast forward a couple more years and there was Matraca. His prolific trajectory and his current role as an innovator on of the most proficient Footwork think-tanks in Latin America. Make him an excellent and versatile DJ with a great musical taste and a bona-fide representative of his brand’s standard of quality. If you wanna listen to the avant-garde of Lima’s underground electronic music, tune in monthly, on Friday’s at 4pm UK through WIDE Radio.
