WIDE Recommends: #0002
This week’s recommendations are spread all around in terms of geography and musical genres, from catchy, bubblegum-sticky pop, going through classic raps and some others with their bars in korean, electronica, trip-hop and finishing with a terrifyingly trendy neoperreo. A multicultural trip of outstanding musical releases.
1. ALMA (feat. Kiiara) — “Chit Chat”
It’s never easy to let go off bubble-gummy pop music, and this is totally the case for “Chit Chat”. Just today, Finnish singer ALMA has sparked much chatter with the release of her mixtape Heavy Rules, featuring collaborations with artists such as Tove Styrke, MØ and Kiiara adding to the depth of the main protagonist: of her prodigious voice, like Adele minus the series of continuous heartbreaks.
2. Saba — “Busy”
Chicago’s rapper Saba presents “Busy”, a very gentle and enjoyable track, an earnest hindsight of life after success. This is an advance of his fifth studio album which he’s taken the trouble to catalogue as “the best contemporary rap album”, a successor of Bucket List Project edited in 2016.
3. Peggy Gou – “Han Jan”
Peggy Gou, the south korean artists based on Berlin has just edited her Once EP today, signed to British label Ninja Tune. Picked out from this release, “Han Jan” is a musical gem, a veritable wormhole to the 90s with delicate korean vocals delivered upon analogue synth and percussion sounds, a delicious sonic framework with intense party vibes to paint the town red.
4. Lizz – “Mercurio Lento”
Neoperreo is trending harder than Jordan Peterson and the Chilean Artist LIZZ has taken it upon herself to be a part of this whole mess of a subgenre. It’s like the reggaeton of the future. “Mercurio Lento” is the singer’s latest single, a trappier track with lyrics covering your usual falling out of love and egotism, which is also her first collaboration with Onovo Music, the Spanish urban music label.
5. Sevdaliza – “Human Nature”
Our muse, Sevdaliza, who we’ve already highlighted a couple weeks ago on our #NewDiscovery, had the kindness of releasing a new single dubbed “Human Nature”, a very downtempo, intimate and captivating track. Her vocals, dipped in autotune and surrounded by her recognizable blend of eerie synthesizers and pianos make the listeners dream of sci-fi odalisques dripping-wet in style.
6. Amber Mark – “Love Me Right”
Amber Mark dropped “Love Me Right”, the main single in her upcoming EP Conexão, which will be fully released by the end of this year. A track which reflects on the setting of rules in a relationship, with a catchy and addictive hook.
